Hello everyone!
Today I heard that the Guy Fawkes Day is celebrated in England! I didn't really know what it stands for so I decided to search for the meaning in the internet and I got resolutions.
So what is Guy Fawkes Day? I will tell you.
Guy Fawkes was born as a Protestant. When he got sixteen he changed to Catholicism and after a short time he went to the Spanish army. Co-conspirators Robert Catesby, Thomas Winter, Thomas Percy and John Wright thought that he would be the ideal Person to help them to perform their plan (the infamous "Gunpowder Plot"). Fawkes' henchmen were very busy Catholics who belived that by bringing down the government, they might usher a new era of Catholicism in Protestant England. He and his partners made a plan. They wanted to explode gunpowder under Parliament during a state opening, when King James I, his queen, and other family members and government leaders were inside.
But the plan didn't worked! A Lord warned King James about the plot and the the police found the gunpowder. Fawkes and his partners were arrested or killed. Parliament immediately established Nov. 5 as a day of celebration.
The day is now celebrated with bonfires and fireworks.
