Advertisements

Hello everybody!

In our last english lesson we were talking about advertisements and so we decided to describe a funny ad.

On the right you can see a german advertisement from eSixt, where you can rent a car from Mercedes for a certain period of time. The slogan says: “Are you up for a new hairstyle? Rent a convertible.”

The ad consists of two black-and-white-pictures of the same Women and a slogan, which is orange on a black background. With the orange colour the ad tries to catch your attention as well as with the funny picture on the right. The ad uses only a little text. I think they made a good job with the advertisement because the woman’s hairstyle is a great eye catcher.

local election 2015 Schwertberg

Hello everybody!

In our latest english lesson we talked a lot about the state election and the local elections.

What wondered me most was that compared to the result of the federal state election Schwertberg voted pretty different. The freedom party even decreased per 1 percent since 2009.

Schwertberg has a change of government. The People's Party won the election and the Social Democrats occupied the second place. Now we have a mayor from the People's Party.

A response to an article

Dear Sir,

I was reading your article in Voice of the UK the other day and you talked about voting at 16. Your opinion about that is pretty clear. As an example you mentioned your own daughter and her ‘laziness’. This and the youth in general is what I refer to.
You described your daughter as a non-political teenager, who’s just interested in video games and having fun. This might be true for a lot of young people, but their behaviour isn’t the real problem. In my opinion, the education plays a big role in this case. Teenagers and also younger kids should be more confronted with politics in school.
As a pupil, I can say that I was too less confronted with our political system and I only got information’s from the TV when I attended main school. I attend a commercial high school now and so I got many more information about politics but many pupils of main schools won’t attend a high school which cares about this topic as a commercial high school.
So how do they get the right information about our political system? I think the future-pupils should be confronted with this topic in their younger years, when they are attending main school. When they get 16, they are already enough informed to think about elections and who to vote.
Sincerely
Katja Höller

United Kingdom general election, 2015

Hi everybody!

In our last english lesson the word "conservative" led us to an important topic concerning the United Kingdom. I thought you might be interested in the results of the election of the final parties.

The first party is the Conservative party with 36,9 %. The second one is Labour with 30,4 %. With 4,7 % the SNP is the third party and the Liberal Democrat is fourth one with 7,9 %.

Why Americans don't want to soak the rich

I have been reading an article the other day in the Ny-times and it talks about the income inequality in the United States. I thought you might be interested because it is a special topic and it’s a good question, why the Americans don’t feel the need to have more equal incomes.

With rising income inequality in the United States, you might expect more and more people to decide that it’s time to soak the rich. Here’s a puzzle: Over the last several years, the opposite has happened. Since the 1970s the middle class incomes have been low, while the wealthy have done very well; inequality of wealth and income has risen. Americans’ desire to soak the rich has decreased even as the rich have more money available that could, theoretically, be soaked.

What interested me most was that the author of the article demonstrated two different ways of possible causes for the ideological background of the Americans:

Ø  If you’re conservative, an answer might be this: Americans don’t feel the need of more redistribution (Neuverteilung) because they realized that low taxes on the rich is a reason for faster economic growth that ultimately made everybody better off.

Ø  If you’re a liberal, the answer might be more like this: Americans have been cheated by conservative politicians and media outlets, and have come to view redistribution as a dirty word because they don’t recognize the ways it benefits them.

How you make sense of rising inequality depends on your ideological sense. So, what is your opinion about this topic?
